Some of my earliest childhood memories are of my dad sitting in our living room at home and playing old country and folk songs. When I was five I decided I wanted to be just like him and it was time to play the guitar. He had a massive guitar that was twice as big as I was, but I would sit on his lap and strum while he played chords with his left hand and sung. I loved strumming right away, and after several years of hard work I was able to play it on my own.

My first documented attempt at the fiddle, 1995

I wouldn't say I grew up in an particularly musical household, but the early exposure of watching my dad play and my parents' support as I learned my first guitar chords played a crucial part in my musical development. With the proper instruction and support, learning an instrument can be one of the most valuable and rewarding experiences.

Whether your goal is to be a performer and soloist, play in a band, write songs, or you'd simply like to learn a few of your favorites, I can help you or your child achieve those goals.

I’ve spent the last decade working in schools with kids of all ages, and have coached hundreds of students as they get their start or continue their musical studies.

Beginning and intermediate lessons on guitar, mandolin, fiddle/violin, and ukulele focus on technique, basic chords and melodies, creating and articulating clear notes, and consistent strumming and bowing.

Advanced lessons focus on soloing, improvisation, groove, singing, ear training, and performance.

I also offer small group lessons and workshops, you may learn alongside your children, with friends, as a family. For students that may already have some playing experience, group learning is the perfect environment to learn how to play within an ensemble, practice singing and soloing, and to learn group dynamics with other musicians.
